Somerset House ¼ mile

This magnificent 18th century building by Sir William Chambers is noted for its classical interiors and architectural features. Somerset House contains: the Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery (paintings, sculptures and decorative arts); the Gilbert Collection (decorative arts); and the Hermitage Rooms (changing exhibitions). The Hermitage Rooms are decorated in the style of the State Hermitage Rooms in St Petersburg. Tel. 020 7845 4600.

There are entrances off both the Victoria Embankment and Strand.

Two Temple Place ¼ mile

The late Victorian neo-Gothic mansion makes a spectacular setting for the annual exhibitions showcasing publicly-owned museum and art gallery collections from outside London. Café. Admission free. Tel. 020 7836 3715.
